Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer Centre: Assist with organizing volunteers, maintain volunteer roster and schedules. Must enjoy working with the public, good at problem solving, good communication skills
Info Tent: Deal effectively with the public, answering questions regarding festival, the community of Nanaimo, Dragon Boat racing, etc. Responsibilities include maintaining Lost and Found records, updating race results, selling raffle tickets, and accepting donations from the public. Must enjoy working with the public, good at problem solving, knowledge of Nanaimo, good communications skills
Team Registration: assist with team registration, assignment of tents, distribution of registration materials. Must enjoy working with the public, good at problem solving, good communications skills
Retail tent: Sell and merchandise Dragon Boat souvenir merchandise. Must enjoy working with the public, good at problem solving, past retail/sales experience and ability to work with money.
Children's Activity Centre: Direct and participate in activities for children. Enthusiastic and upbeat personality, past experience working with children and organizing activities would be helpful.
Site Crew: Set-up and take down site – the day before and at end of Festival. Keep site clean, assist with garbage pick-up, recycling, keeping washrooms stocked. Physically fit, team player, able to take direction.
Security: Provide security,. Physically fit, able to be assertive, good English skills, over 18, calm in stressful situations.
Traffic Control: Control traffic through site (people and cars), direct spectators to free parking areas. Physically fit, able to be assertive, good English skills, over 18, calm in stressful situations.
Party Crew: Help with set-up and take down of Paddler’s Party, staff the party. Team player, fun, enthusiastic! Must be over 19 years of age.
Promotions Crew: Assist in the fundraising events held throughout the Festival weekend. Team player, enjoy working with the public, great sales skills.
