2013 Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival Parking
The festival takes place at Maffeo Sutton Park in downtown Nanaimo at the waterfront and the local parking has very limited parking for the well over 2000 participants plus vendors and the public. Accordingly there will be no public parking on site during the 5-7 July 2013. Barriers will be erected at the entrances to the park and will be manned from 0730 -1800 Friday and the 0700-1900 Saturday and Sunday of the festival.
Carpooling is recommended for all participants and spectators
All parking will be restricted to drop-offs, organizers, vendors and handicapped. Participants may drop-off for 10 minutes only in a turn-about area. Vehicles left for longer will be subject to towing.
Regrettably there is NO overnight accommodation/ camping permitted in city parks.
Drop-off- Loading zone
There are 15 spots for drop-offs and loading and will be monitored to a maximum of 10 minutes Those wishing to drop off a handicap person as close to the event as possible will be allowed to do so with the proviso that they remove their vehicle after the drop-off/pickup.
Thirty spots will be designated to the rear (west) of the turnabout.
Vendors will be issued passes and be permitted one vehicle per vendor for the festival Please note this does not include extra personnel manning the vendor’s facility.
Off Site Parking
Anyone wishing to parking nearby should utilize the Bastion Parkade approximately 250 metres to the south of the park as per the attached map. The City of Nanaimo has granted the festival free parking in the park less the top floor which is metered. There is a parkade in the rear of the Howard Johnston hotel to the west of the festival (not marked on the map) but parking is very expensive and not recommended. All other parkades owned by the City of Nanaimo will be monitored by parking enforcement personnel. There is also off street parking relatively close by.
