IN 2012 THE NANAIMO DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL DONATED $40,000!!! The Nanaimo Hospital Foundation and Nanaimo Hospice society each received $20,000.
The Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival Society donates 100% of the net proceeds to the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation and Nanaimo Hospice Society to assist in improving the diagnostic-treatment process of breast cancer patients; and, to assist the hospice society in its work with patients.
The Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival Society has been designated a position on the Platinum Donor Wall at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) for donating over $150,000 to the Nanaimo & District Hospital Foundation. This recognition is given to donors who have reached this level of giving and is the highest honour of donor recognition provided by the Foundation.
“The Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival Society has demonstrated true leadership in support of local healthcare excellence,” says Maeve O’Byrne, President of the Foundation. “They join only a handful of other community organizations who have donated such extraordinary sums of money to our hospital over the years. We are incredibly grateful for their support and are thrilled to recognize them for reaching this outstanding milestone.”
The Save On Foods Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival began in 2003 and focuses on raising funds for imaging equipment to assist in the early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer at NRGH. “We are honoured to be recognized for making contributions towards the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer on Central Vancouver Island,” says Bob Buchanan, Past-President of the Society. “The paddlers, sponsors, volunteers and members of the general public who support this event are the true heroes.”
